After a troubled week training with very average to bad times i did perform somewhat to my ability. The top till kreisel was nice and then some crack appeared. From a 16th start i managed to creep to 14th after kreisel but then fell back to mistakes to 18th and finally 22nd , 5/100 off the pace to get a second run. Although disappointed i came so close and thus so far i was okay with the run. My training hadnt been great and with that in mind i could look back at an okay run. With a 5,22 start i was not that far of my personal best by a couple of hundreds, translated to the time difference other people had on their best pushes it was pretty good. A big thank you to Dirk who did a tremendous job making the sled go fast en keep my runners up to scratch (no fun intended) I trully believe that with some good runs from my part a top 8 would easily been achieveable on the sled setup and Dirks lines. It is now sunday evening and it is sinking in that i wont compete in skeleton anymore. I will do some local races just for the fun of it but competitive sliding is no more my thing. the coming years i will keep busy with skeletonsport.com and see how that will involve into who knows what. As on facebook i thank everybody involved for the support and the enjoyment the sport has brought me in my active athlete period. I hope i can contribute enough to the sport in the future to make it as valuable to others as it was to me. In the next week i will do the sums and try to evaluate how the last 4 years have gone by and what I missed in my preparation to miss out on the big trophy going to the games, i dont expect easy answers because there arent any in most simple situations let alone a hectic environment like skeleton. Still i am sure i can learn something from looking back. In the next months i will be starting work again with Sogeti my main sponsor and employer for as long as i have slid skeleton. Going back to work will be another major challenge since the Information Technology world is sometimes moving in a faster pace then skeleton does. I need to gear up and get smart into IT again.
